JOHN KENNEDY: What can you do for your country?

John Fitzgerald Kennedy, often referred to by his initials JFK, is one of the most known US presidents. He was the youngest man elected president and the youngest to die. Also, he was the first president to have been born in the 20th century, the only Catholic president and the only president to have won a Pulitzer Prize.

His Inaugural Address offered the memorable injunction: “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country”.

Among other things, he took vigorous action in the cause of equal rights, calling for new civil rights legislation. His vision of America extended to the quality of the national culture and the central role of the arts in a vital society.
